RP-PPPoE にはウィザード形式のスクリプトが付属しており、そのスクリプトに問われる質問に答えることによって、対話的に設定を行うことができます。以下のコマンドを実行します。

ADSLにログオンする際のユーザー名を入力します。ADSL プロバイダから提供されたユーザー名を入力して［Enter］を押します。

次に、ADSL モデムに接続している Ethernet カードのインターフェース名を入力します。eth0、eth1 といったインターフェース名を入力して［Enter］を押します。

接続に関する形態を指定します。ある一定時間接続要求がない場合は自動切断をして、再び接続要求があり次第接続するか、常に接続し続けるかを選択します。前者の場合は、自動切断するまでの無通信時間を秒単位で入力します。後者の場合は、no を入力します。通常、定額制の ADSL 接続の場合は no を指定しますので、そのまま［Enter］キーを押します。
DNS Please enter the IP address of your ISP's primary DNS server. If your ISP claims that 'the server will provide DNS addresses', enter 'server' (all lower-case) here. プライマリ DNS サーバーを入力します。ADSL プロバイダから提供されたプライマリ DNS サーバーの IP アドレスを入力します。接続時に DNS サーバー情報が自動的に送られてくる場合は、server を入力します。すでに、/etc/resolv.conf に DNS サーバーの設定を行っている場合は、何も入力せず［Enter］を押してください。

前項でプライマリ DNS サーバーを指定した場合に表示されます。ここではセカンダリ DNS サーバーの IP アドレスを入力します。

ADSL にログオンする際のパスワードを入力します。ADSLプロバイダから提供されたパスワードを入力します。確認のため、同じパスワードを 2 回入力します。
FIREWALLING
Please choose the firewall rules to use. Note that these rules are
very basic. You are strongly encouraged to use a more sophisticated
firewall setup; however, these will provide basic security. If you
are running any servers on your machine, you must choose 'NONE' and
set up firewalling yourself. Otherwise, the firewall rules will deny
access to all standard servers like Web, e-mail, ftp, etc. If you
are using SSH, the rules will block outgoing SSH connections which
allocate a privileged source port.
The firewall choices are:
0 - NONE: This script will not set any firewall rules. You are responsible
for ensuring the security of your machine. You are STRONGLY
recommended to use some kind of firewall rules.
1 - STANDALONE: Appropriate for a basic stand-alone web-surfing workstation
2 - MASQUERADE: Appropriate for a machine acting as an Internet gateway
for a LAN

ここでは、ファイアウォールの設定を行います。0、1、2 の 3 つのいずれかを指定できますが、ここでは 0 を入力し、別途 iptables で設定することをお勧めします。

これまで入力した値が一覧表示されます。内容に間違いがなければ y を入力して［Enter］を押します。

上記のように表示されれば設定終了です。設定した内容は /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf に書き込まれます。
