The easiest way to install Turbolinux 10 Server software is to choose a predefined installation type.
Under the tab marked Standard Selection, you can choose:
This selection will install the basic package set required to run a Linux system.
This selection contains a standard base of server-oriented packages.
This selection includes packages useful for developers, such as compilers, libraries, and development tools.
This selection includes all packages. As this uses a significant amount of hard disk space, you may wish to verify that sufficient hard disk space exists for the software to be installed in addition to any data you may wish to save to the local disk in the future.
![]() | The sum total of packages to be installed is displayed to the right-hand side of the installation type. The Space left on disk displays the approximate amount of free space remaining on your disk. However, these sizes are only approximations. The disk space actually required may differ depending upon the type of file system used and the partition structure in place. |
![]() | If the actual free disk space amount is less than the selected installation type requires, you will not be able to proceed (by clicking "Next") and you will have to choose a different installation type or modify your partition sizes. |
For more information on the various installation choices, please refer to the Custom Selection tab (Figure 2.24). Information regarding highlighted categories or packages is displayed in the lower half of the screen.
Under the Custom Selection Tab, you may choose from several package groups in the section marked Categories. You may select individual packages for installation in the section labeled Packages.
Under the Settings tab:
Enable the reading of package lists from media other than the Turbolinux 10 Server Install CD-ROM.
Select the kernel to be installed. You may either allow Turbolinux to choose automatically, or you may select a specific SMP or even a non-SMP kernel.
Choose the language in which Turbolinux will be used after installation if it differs from that used for the installation itself.
Select Ignore Dependencies if required (generally this is not necessary).
