On the Keyboard Configuration screen (Figure 2.5 and Figure 2.6), specify the keyboard you are using. There are two tabs, Basic and Option. Both tabs have a text field which allows you to test your keyboard layout and selected options.
On the Configure Keyboard - Basic Tab (Figure 2.5), select a generic keyboard from the dropdown list and test your selection.
Keyboard keys are mapped to different characters in different languages and the mapping of keys to characters is a function of software (it is not necessarily related to the letters printed on the keys). For example, the first six letters on a US (United States) keyboard are QWERTY. However, the first six characters on a German keyboard are QWERTZ. Your selection here should reflect the language of the user normally using the machine.
On the Keyboard Configuration - Option Tab :
Choose the manufacturer of your keyboard from the list labeled Model.
Select the language of your keyboard from the list labeled Layout.
Use the option box to enable Dead Keys, Swap Caps Lock and Control keys or to disable the use of X keyboard.
Dead Keys, also called compose keys, allow you to enter special characters such as cedillas and umlauts.
Use the text box for testing your selection to verify that the keyboard mapping is correct. Special characters may not be visible at this time; however, they should be mapped and available after installation is complete.
