Chapter 1. Getting Started

Before installing any server product, it is important to know the specifications of the hardware on which the product is to be installed and the settings required by the network to which the server is attached.

This chapter covers what you need to know or do before you install Turbolinux 10 Server and is divided into the following sections:

1.1. Hardware Considerations

Before installation, it is necessary to know what type of hardware is in your computer. Make sure that you know, or can easily identify with documentation, the model and manufacturer of the following devices and any other devices in your computer before installation:

If you are installing Turbolinux 10 Server on a machine that has Microsoft Windows (9x, NT, 2000, or XP) installed, you can obtain a printout of your hardware details by following these steps:

  1. Select Start> Settings> Control Panel

  2. Double-click the System icon

  3. Select the Device Manager tab and click Print

  4. When the Print window appears, select All Devices and System Summary

  5. Click [OK]

You should then have a printout containing detailed information about your system from which you can identify the items in the list above.
