On this screen, specify your machine's video settings, including your screen color depth and size, login method and window manager. When finished, you should test your video configuration to ensure that it functions properly.
Once again, although the installation program tries to identify the best settings for your display, you may use alternate values.
![]() | It is recommended, however, that you use the defaults unless you are certain that your computer's hardware supports alternate values. |
Click the button labeled Skip X Configuration if you wish to configure your X Window System after installation.
Select the color depth and desktop resolution based on the capabilities of your monitor and video card.
If you are not sure of your system's capabilities, consult your hardware's documentation.
Test Your X Window System Configuration.
Clicking the "Test this configuration" button will display a sample desktop screen based on the specified monitor, video card, desktop resolution, and mouse configuration information.
Choose Your Default Window Manager.
If the Installation type selected has more than one window manager to choose from, the given drop down list can be used to select which one will be the default to run after installation.
Choose Whether Or Not To Use a Graphical Login.
Select "Use Graphical Login" if you would like Turbolinux to launch the X Window System at system startup and allow logins via a graphical user interface.
When testing your configuration, if successful, the cursor should move when you move the mouse, and the colors and size of the display should look reasonable.
If the configuration is unsuccessful, some or all of the following may be true:
The screen may be black for a moment before returning to the X Window System Configuration screen
If this is the case, you may have chosen a screen resolution higher than that supported by your monitor or video card.
The screen may display very large characters
This probably means that the video card is running in the wrong mode. You should select a resolution supported by your video card on the X Window System Configuration screen.
The screen may flicker, contain garbage, or display odd colors
This may indicate a combination of desktop resolution and color depth selection exceeding that supported by your video card.
If you are unable to address the issues on this screen, you may choose Skip X Config and use turboxcfg after completing installation of Turbolinux 10 Server to finish configuring your X Window System.
