2. Installation

To apply the Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 update kit, you may use either of the following methods:
! Please read the installation guide carefully before applying the update in order to avoid any unexpected system problems.

2.1 Apply the update during the initial installation of Turbolinux 8 for AMD64
2.1.1 Boot from the update CD-ROM
2.1.2 Apply the update CD-ROM
2.1.2.1 GUI installation
2.1.2.2 Text installation
2.2 Apply the update to an existing Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 installed system
2.2.1 Running turbopkg


2.1 Apply the update during the initial installation of Turbolinux 8 for AMD64

The most effective way to apply the update is to install the Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 update CD-ROM during the initial system installation.

2.1.1 Boot from the update CD-ROM

  1. Insert and boot from the update CD-ROM. This will automatically invoke the installer.
  2. After the installer begins, you will be presented with following selections [Select language], [Keyboard type]
  3. When you see the [Installation Type] dialog, eject the update CD-ROM and insert the original Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 installation CD-ROM, then select [Local CDROM] to continue.
  4. Please follow the instructions to continue the installation.

2.1.2 Apply the update CD-ROM

2.1.2.1 GUI-based installation

  1. Start the installer to begin the installation of the packages.
  2. After package installation, you will see a message that reads [Additional package installation], uncheck the box then click on the [Next] button to continue.

  1. Follow the instructions on the screen and insert the AMD64 Update CD-ROM, then click the [Next] button.
  2. You will see the list of packages. Next, click the following buttons:

[Select] -> [Up] -> [Next]

  1. After installing the packages, you will see a message [Additional package installation] once again. If there are no other update CD-ROMs you are applying at this time, click on the [Next] button to continue.

2.1.2.2 Text-based installation

  1. Start the installer to begin the installation of the packages.
  2. After package installation, you will see a messages that reads [Additional package installation], click on the [OK] button to continue.

  1. Follow the instructions on the screen and insert the AMD64 Update CD-ROM, then click the [OK] button.
  2. You will see the list of packages. Next, click the following keys:

Press [F7] key (or [U] key), then click on the [OK] button

  1. After installing the packages, you will see a message [Additional packages installation] once again. If there are no other update CD-ROMs you are applying at this time, click on the [Cancel] button to continue.

2.2 Apply the update to an existing Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 installed system

If you already have Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 installed on your system, please use this update method to apply the update. We recommend that you first run a complete backup of your system in the event an unexpected problem occurs.

2.2.1 Running turbopkg

  1. Login as root, and execute "turbopkg"
# turbopkg

By default, your display will be in English. If you prefer to use Japanese as the default, please execute the "miniuni" command at the console before running the turbopkg tool.

If running KDE, click on the KDE menu, select [Turbolinux] -> and click on the [Package management tool].

  1. After you see the messages that says [Welcome], select [Update].
  2. When the screen displays [Media], select [CD-ROM].
  3. After the update packages have been selected, click on the [OK] button to continue.
  4. You will see a list of packages that will be installed, to continue click the [OK] button.

If you see a message that says "Unresolved dependencies, please abort the installation.", the system will be corrupted if the installation is continued. First find the packages that are causing dependency errors and install the proper packages from the installation CD-ROM. You may then start the installation process once again.

  1. This update CD-ROM contains a new kernel; therefore a reboot of your system is required. After the reboot process, please ensure the kernel version has been updated. File /proc/version will indicate the current kernel version.
