On UNIX-like operating systems including Linux, you need to "login" before using a computer. This is because Linux is a multi-user system in which users need to be identified. By logging in, users certify themselves before operation. This arrangement also prevents break-in of unauthorized users by letting in only users authorized to use the system.
Turbolinux FUJI allows you to select the use of text login or graphical login during installation. The difference of these options are whether login should be performed on a console or on X Window System.
![]() | If you enable "Enable auto login for this user" in the "User Account Configuration" screen, the following login screen does not come up but you automatically log in by a general user that has been created. |

Enter a general user name that has been created and press the [Enter] key. Enter "root" to login as super user. Next, enter a password and press the [Enter] key. The entered characters will appear as asterisks to prevent people from seeing your password.
When you are verified as an authorized user, the desktop environment that you selected during installation will appear. Turbolinux FUJI uses KDE as the standard desktop environment.

When the system boots, the Turbolinux version, kernel version, and control terminal are displayed and then the following information is displayed.
Turbolinux Desktop 11 (Fuji) Linux 2.6.13-5.2 on an i686 (localhost.localdomain) VC: vc/1 localhost login: _ |
Enter a user name and press the [Enter] key. You will be prompted for a password as follows:
Turbolinux Desktop 11 (Fuji) Linux 2.6.13-5.2 on an i686 (localhost.localdomain) VC: vc/1 localhost login: taro Password: |
Enter a password that you chose during installation and press the [Enter] key. The characters that you enter will not be displayed.
When you are verified as an authorized user, a command prompt with the following syntax will appear.
[user-name@host-name current-directory]$
![]() | The command prompt will appear as # for a root user and $ for a general user. |
If, for example, your host name is localhost and login user name is taro, the following information will be displayed.
Turbolinux Desktop 11 (Fuji) Linux 2.6.13-5.2 on an i686 (localhost.localdomain) VC: vc/1 localhost login: taro Password: Welcole to Turbolinux. [taro@localhost taro]$ _ |
At this point, you have logged in to Turbolinux FUJI and are allowed to execute commands by entering them at the command prompt.
![]() | Execute startx command to launch KDE or other desktop environment. |
Select "Log Out..." from the panel menu to log out from the system. When the following dialog comes up, click the [End Current Session] button.

You will be sent back to the graphical login screen.
![]() | If you enable "Enable auto login for this user" in the "User Account Configuration" screen, the login screen does not come up but you automatically log in again. If you want to end operation as the current login user and log in again as a different user, select "Switch Users" from the panel menu. The following menu will come up. |

When you select "Start New Session", the login screen will come up. Enter a different user name and a password to log in. If you select "Lock Current session & Start New Session", you will need to enter a password when you go back to the current session. A list of sessions will be displayed on the menu, allowing you to switch between them easily.
Log out by executing the command:
$ logout |
or
$ exit |
You will be sent back to the text login screen.
![]() | You can also press [Ctrl] + [D] keys to log out. |
