Appendix A. Install Options

In the installer boot screen, specify a boot menu item and a boot option in combination to change the installer operation mode. You may be able to work around a problem encountered in the normal installation procedure by specifying an install option. The installer boot screen varies depending on whether it is started from the "Install CD" or from the "Install disks".

If you start the installer from the "Install CD", the following boot screen comes up.

Select a desired mode from the following boot menu and enter a boot option if required. You can specify multiple boot options by delimiting them with blanks.

Rescue SystemIs useful when a system encounters a trouble after installation for unknown cause. This option allows you to launch the shell without using a hard disk in order to recover a system that does not boot and collect information for troubleshooting.
kickstart Starts the installer in kickstart mode. The installer reads the ks.cfg file stored on the boot disks or Install CD and automatically completes all the installation processing. The Install CD or system install disks contain a sample ks.cfg file.

If you start the installer from the install disks, the following boot screen comes up.

At the boot: prompt, enter a boot label. If required, boot options can be added after the boot label. You can specify multiple boot options by delimiting them with blanks. The default boot label is install. If a boot option(s) is specified, the boot label may not be omitted. The following shows an example of input.

boot: install vesa nousb
