3.8. Network Configuration

Configure here the network environment for the computer on which you are installing Turbolinux FUJI. This screen is not displayed if no network card is inserted or the installer fails to detect a network card. If you do not connect your computer to a network or limit your computer connections to telephone-line PPP connections, deselect "Configure dynamic IP address using DHCP" and "Activate interface on boot", and then click the [Next] button. The installer proceeds to the next step.

Tip

When you do not connect your computer to a network, you can specify a host name, but you do not need to. The default host name is "localhost.localdomain."

If more than one network card is installed, multiple tabs labeled eth0, eth1, ... are displayed. By selecting a tab, you can configure the network card corresponding to the selected tab. If installation is proceeding via a network, the present display reflects network information that has already been configured.

The parameters to be set are as follows: Ask the network administrator if you do not know values to be entered.

Configure dynamic IP address using DHCP

Select this option to acquire IP address and other network information from the DHCP server.

Activate interface on boot

Select this option to enable the network card when the system boots.

If you do not use the DHCP server, you need to specify the following parameters:

IP Address:

Specify the IP address of the local host.

Netmask:

Specify the subnet mask of the network to be used.

Network:

Specify the network address. (When you specify the IP address and subnet mask, the network address will be automatically calculated.)

Broadcast:

Specify the broadcast address. (When you specify the IP address and subnet mask, the network address will be automatically calculated.)

Hostname (FQDN):

Specify the host name of the installed instance of Turbolinux FUJI. Enter the FQDN including the domain name (such as server1.example.com), rather than the simple host name.

Gateway:

Specify the IP address of the default gateway.

Primary DNS Server:

Specify the IP address of the DNS server to be referenced first (primary DNS server). If more than one DNS server can be specified, enter the IP addresses of the second and third DNS servers.
