4.3. Control Panel Functions

The control panel's cover can be hidden. Position the cursor in the upper center area of the control panel and a Show/Hide (W) hint will appear. Press once to hide the control panel and again to show.

Below are instructions in using the functions located within the control panel.

4.3.1. Using the Menus

Press this once after playback has begun (after the warning messages) or when the title menu is displayed and a menu will appear:

When menu selections are grayed out, this signifies that the DVD title does not provide for such a selection.

4.3.2. Bookmarking Your Favorite Scenes

During playback, you may bookmark your favorite scenes for future reference! So anytime in the future when you would like to return to a specific scene, PowerDVD makes it splendidly easy. All you have to do is press the Bookmark button in the control panel when your favorite scene is playing.

The Goto Bookmark function directly goes to the next bookmark in chronological order located in the control panel. Press it during playback.

Bookmark Menus

Simply point your cursor over Bookmark after you have added a few bookmarks and right click:

You may delete old bookmarks or delete them all at once by selecting Delete All.

Position the cursor over the Goto Bookmark button in the control panel and right click for this menu:

This provides a direct link to any bookmark. The Browser will display the bookmarks' locations as embedded in the chapters:

Select a chapter or bookmark and press Go To or Close to exit.

4.3.3. Repeating Your Favorite Scenes

Simply press the Repeat button during playback for repeating the chapter. To repeat titles, press twice.

AB Repeat

This function allows user to repeat any part of a DVD title they wish, like their favorite scenes.

  1. During playback, set A by pressing the AB Repeat button at the beginning of the segment you would like to repeat.

  2. Press it again in order to set B where you would like the segment to end. The segment will now repeat instantly and loop continuously.

  3. To clear, press the AB Repeat button, Repeat button or navigate out of this segment's range (i.e. with the navigational slider, shuttle, or jumping to the next or previous chapters).

4.3.4. Capturing Your Favorite Scenes

During playback, simply press the Capture button to capture any video content. To be more precise, you may pause the scene or even play in slow motion and capture.

The location of the captured images' can be set in the Configuration area and are saved in .PPM format. Please refer to Section 5.1 for more information.

4.3.5. Displaying Subtitles

This feature, located in the control panel, is only available during playback. Press it to switch among subtitles, but the number of subtitles all depend on the DVD title.

Position your cursor above the Subtitles button and right click for the menu. Then pick a subtitle and click it for selection:

4.3.6. Switching Audio Streams

This feature is available during playback. Simply press to switch among the available audio streams (e.g. different languages) where the number of streams depend on the DVD title itself.

Right click on the Audio Streams button to call up this menu:

Just select one and click.

4.3.7. Switching Among Available Angles

This feature has not gained prominence as of yet among DVD authors, but is available on occasion for music concert DVDs. Press this during playback to switch among available angles.

4.3.8. Selecting Karaoke Options

Be sure to look for the Karaoke Logo on the package for not all karaoke titles fully support Dolby AC-3.

  1. Upon inserting your karaoke disc, be sure PowerDVD is in disc mode and your microphone is installed properly.

  2. Press Play and then the menu screen will appear. Use your Menu Pad or choose a song by clicking on it with your mouse.

  3. During playback, click on Karaoke and then select from: dual vocal channels on (Vocal Both), either Vocal 1 or Vocal 2 on, or have both off (Vocal None).

  4. Begin singing!
