2. Installation

To apply the Turbolinux 10 Desktop Update kit, you may follow either of the following methods:

In the event your system can't boot from a CD-ROM, you can install the system via an installation floppy diskette.(->2.3)

2.1 Perform a clean Turbolinux 10 Desktop installation by booting from the Update Kit disk
2.2 Upgrade an existing Turbolinux 10 Desktop system
2.3 Boot from a floppy disk
2.3.1 Create an installation disk


2.1 Perform a clean Turbolinux 10 Desktop installation by booting from the Update Kit disk

The most effective way to apply the update is to install the Turbolinux 10 Desktop Update CD during the initial system installation.

  1. Insert and boot from the Update CD. This will automatically invoke the installer.
  2. After the installer begins, Please follow the instructions to continue the installation.

2.2 Upgrade an existing Turbolinux 10 Desktop system

  1. Insert the Update CD into your CD-ROM drive and select Turbo Update from the menu.

  2. Click [Change reading media] and choose CD-ROM, then select [Scan update information].

  3. Your system first needs to update the "zabom" package, which is a package administration tool. Click [Now update], then [complete].

  4. Follow step #2 once again. You will now see all package updates included in the Update CD. Please install following the same procedure as above.  Please note:  you can unselect any packages by clicking the checkbox next to the package name.

  5. Next, you will need to restart your system in order to apply the new kernel. Once your system has rebooted verify your new kerel has been updated. From the menu, select [Control Panel]-[Control Center]. If you see KDE 3.1.5 and kernel 2.6.0-5 listed, your update has succeeded!

    2.3 Boot from a floppy disk

    In a event that you cannot boot your system from a CD-ROM, you can boot from a floppy disk by creating an installation disk. You can find the installation disk image in the images directory on the Update CD-ROM.

    2.3.1 Create an installation disk

    To make the install disk, please refer to section A.2. "How to make install disk" in the install guide located on the Companion CD.
