On the Configure Keyboard screen (Figure 2.4 and Figure 2.5), specify the keyboard you use. There are two tabs, Basic and Option. Both tabs have a bar on which to test the layout of the selected options.
On the Configure Keyboard - Basic Tab (Figure 2.4), select a generic keyboard from the dropdown list, and test your selection.
Keys are mapped to different characters in different languages and the mapping of keys to characters is a function of software, not the letters printed on the keys. For example, the first six letters on a US (United States) keyboard are QWERTY. The first six characters on a German keyboard are QWERTZ. Your selection from this list should reflect the language of the user of the machine.
On the Configure Keyboard - Option Tab :
Choose the manufacturer of your keyboard from the list labeled Model.
Select the language of your keyboard from the list labeled Layout.
Use the option box to enable Dead Keys, Swap capslock and control keys or disable X keyboard.
Dead Keys, also called compose keys, allow you to enter special characters such as cedillas and umlauts.
Use the text box for testing the selection to verify that the mapping of the keyboard is correct. Special characters may not be visible at this time; however, they should be mapped and available after installation is complete.
