IBM and Pacific HiTech Announce Linux Alliance On Servers and Software Development;
IBM Channel and Global Support Services to Market, Sell and Support Turbolinux
OAKLAND, Calif.-March 2, 1999- Pacific HiTech, the leader in high
performance Linux, today announced a wide-ranging alliance with IBM
to offer Turbolinux corporate server solutions and support and to
jointly develop and market integrated IBM middleware software on
Turbolinux.
Under the agreement, IBM and Pacific HiTech will work together to
optimize IBM NetFinity servers for running Turbolinux and co-develop
integrated IBM middleware and Turbolinux software solutions for
enterprise customers. The companies will conduct joint marketing to
enterprise customers in Asia and North America. Pacific HiTech will
offer dedicated high-end technical support and training to IBM and
its business partners on Turbolinux as well as perform hardware
certification on IBM's NetFinity line of servers.
"We think corporate customers considering Linux will benefit
enormously from our new IBM alliance to deliver integrated
Turbolinux software and server solutions along with high-level
global support," said Cliff Miller, CEO of Pacific HiTech. "We also
see enormous potential in our partnership to co-develop integrated
IBM software with Turbolinux. Our development lab with IBM will push
high performance Linux to even higher levels."
In 1998, Pacific HiTech shipped more than one million units of
Turbolinux. With offices in the United States, Australia, Japan and
China, Pacific HiTech has quickly become the world's second-largest
Linux company.
According to the computer analyst firm International Data
Corporation, Linux is the fastest-growing server operating
system. IDC estimates that Linux's market share surged 212% in 1998,
giving it 17% of the server market.
